The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) has partnered with Bloomberg Philanthropies to represent Louisville, KY as one of five cities chosen to implement an innovative early childhood vocabulary building initiative. NCFL will work with local organizations to increase parent’s and caregiver’s ability to connect with their children through conversations during routines and events. Through the Say & Play with Words initiative, resources are available online and in-person. NCFL has a goal of supporting and preparing children for kindergarten and continued reading level achievement. Below please find free online resources and a list of organizations hosting parent and play groups.

Resources

Our free resources help family members and caregivers engage with infants and young children through everyday interactions. Try these simple activities created to build a strong vocabulary foundation in your children.

Families can participate in Say & Play with Words Parent Groups or Playgroups. Both groups will learn about ways to talk more and encourage conversation with their child. Parent groups consist of all parents learning together. Playgroups consist of both parents and children interacting together. Utilizing a LENA talk pedometer and talking tips, parents will see weekly progress of interactions with their children.
